Al-Jāmiʿ li-Aḥkām al-Qurʾān known as Tafsīr al-Qurṭubī is the premier tafsīr of legal rulings (aḥkām) in the Islamic scholarly tradition. Written by the Andalusian Mālikī scholar Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Qurṭubī (d. 671 AH / 1273 CE), it spans twenty volumes and is the essential reference for scholars of fiqh seeking to understand the legislative dimension of the Qurʾān.

Jāmiʿ al-Bayān ʿan Taʾwīl Āy al-Qurʾān known universally as Tafsīr al-Ṭabarī is the oldest and most comprehensive tafsīr in existence and the single most important reference work in the entire tradition of Qurʾānic exegesis. Written by the Iraqi polymath Muḥammad ibn Jarīr al-Ṭabarī (224–310 AH / 839–923 CE), it spans thirty volumes in its original Arabic and documents, with full chains of transmission (isnād), the interpretations of the Prophet's Companions and the Successors for nearly every verse of the Qurʾān.

Tafsīr Ibn Kathīr The Complete Qurʾān Commentary
Tafsīr al-Qurʾān al-ʿAẓīm universally known as Tafsīr Ibn Kathīr is the most widely studied and cited Qurʾānic commentary in the Sunni world. Written by the Damascene scholar Ismāʿīl ibn ʿUmar Ibn Kathīr (701–774 AH / 1301–1373 CE), a student of Ibn Taymiyyah and a leading authority in ḥadīth, fiqh, and history, it follows the most rigorous methodology in tafsīr: explaining the Qurʾān first by the Qurʾān itself, then by authentic ḥadīth of the Prophet ﷺ, then by the statements of the Companions (Ṣaḥābah), and then by the Successors (Tābiʿūn).

Nawāqiḍ al-Islām The Nullifiers of Islam is one of the most studied foundational texts in Islamic creedal education worldwide. Written by the reformist Imam Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb (1703–1792 CE), the matn enumerates the ten categories of act and belief that remove a person from the fold of Islam altogether, presenting them in a direct, unambiguous format that gives the student clear and actionable boundaries of faith.

Structured as a fiqh-style book of chapters, each section opens with Quranic verses and hadith and draws rulings about tawhid al-uluhiyyah, systematically exposing every form of shirk that had crept into Muslim practice. One of the most influential aqeedah texts of the last three centuries, still central in Islamic curricula globally.

Shurūṭ al-Ṣalāh wa Arkānuhā
Enumerates the nine conditions, fourteen pillars, and eight obligations of the prayer in a clear list format, making it easy to memorize and teach from. A cornerstone fiqh text that gives students a precise structural understanding of salah before moving to longer fiqh manuals.

Tuḥfat al-Aṭfāl
This didactic poem in rajaz meter covers the essential rules of noon sakinah, tanwin, meem sakinah, and madd providing the vocabulary every student needs to recite the Quran with correct pronunciation. Its rhymed brevity makes it the most commonly memorized tajweed poem for children and beginners across the Muslim world.

The universal starting point for Arabic grammar study, covering the core categories of irab, nouns, verbs, and particles in an ordered dense prose format that has been memorized and commented upon for seven centuries. From West Africa to Southeast Asia, this is the text every student of Arabic grammar begins with with over 400 commentaries written on it.
المَنْظُومَةُ البَيْقُونِيَّة
Al-Manẓūmah al-Bayqūniyyah
This brief poem classifies 34 types of hadith narration from sahih and hasan to daif and its subcategories providing the essential taxonomy of hadith terminology in a memorizable format. Despite its extreme brevity it has become the standard entry point into mustalahal-hadith and is the subject of dozens of commentaries.
العَقِيدَةُ الوَاسِطِيَّة
Al-ʿAqīdah al-Wāsiṭiyyah
Written in response to a judge in Wasit, Iraq, this creed presents the Athari position on the divine names and attributes affirming them without distortion, negation, or likening and covers the companions, Day of Judgment, and matters of faith. Considered Ibn Taymiyyah's most accessible doctrinal work and the standard intermediate aqeedah text in traditional Sunni and Salafi curricula.
مَنْظُومَةُ أَبِي إِسْحَاق الإِلْبِيرِي
Manẓūmat Abī Isḥāq al-Ilbīrī
Written in the voice of a father counseling his son, this Andalusian poem covers the ethics of knowledge-seeking, piety, sincere companionship, and detachment from the dunya in elegant classical Arabic verse. Studied both as an adab text for its moral guidance and as a literary text for its refined Andalusian poetic style.

العَقِيدَةُ الطَّحَاوِيَّة
Al-ʿAqīdah al-Ṭaḥāwiyyah
Written as a concise statement of Sunni creed according to the Hanafi school, al-Tahawi's text covers beliefs about Allah's attributes, prophethood, the Quran as the speech of Allah, predestination, and the intercession of the Prophet in precisely worded affirmations. Arguably the most cross-madhhab accepted creedal text in Sunni Islam, endorsed by scholars of all four schools.
مَتْنُ الرَّحَبِيَّة
Matn al-Raḥbiyyah
The most widely studied classical poem on the science of Islamic inheritance (faraid), systematically versifying the rules for determining heirs, their shares, cases of blocking (hajb), and complex redistribution scenarios. Its rajaz meter and internal mnemonic structure have made it the standard memorization text for faraid across all four Sunni madhabs, with dozens of commentaries produced over the centuries.

Matn al-Waraqāt
Named "The Pages" to reflect its intentional brevity, this primer covers the sources of Islamic law, categories of legal rulings, and methodology of ijtihad in a tightly compressed format. Despite its short length it communicates the skeleton of usul al-fiqh so efficiently that it has attracted over fifty major commentaries and remains the universal entry text in Shafii usul curricula.
عُنْوَانُ الحِكَم
ʿUnwān al-Ḥikam
This short wisdom poem distills counsel on the ethics of the soul detachment from the dunya, reliance on Allah, sincerity in deeds, and the adab of the spiritual path in a compact and memorable form. A gateway to the moral and spiritual teachings of the great Shadhili master whose longer al-Hikam al-Ataiyyah remains one of the most celebrated texts of Islamic spirituality.
