يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاكُم مِّن ذَكَرٍ وَأُنثَىٰ وَجَعَلْنَاكُمْ شُعُوباً وَقَبَائِلَ لِتَعَارَفُوا ۚ إِنَّ أَكْرَمَكُمْ عِندَ اللَّهِ أَتْقَاكُمْ
Yā ayyuhā n-nāsu innā khalaqnākum min dhakarin wa-unthā wa-jaʿalnākum shuʿūban wa-qabāʾila litaʿārafū inna akramakum ʿinda llāhi atqākum
"O mankind, We created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes so that you may know one another. Truly, the most noble of you in Allah's sight is the most God-fearing." (49:13)
- لِتَعَارَفُوا: لِ + subjunctive "so that you may know one another" expressing purpose.
- أَكْرَم / أَتْقَى: Superlative forms "the most noble / the most God-fearing" the af̣ʿal pattern of comparison.
- Islamic equality: Race, tribe, and nationality are means of recognition (تَعَارُف), not hierarchy only taqwā (God-consciousness) ranks people before Allah.
- Philosophical argumentation: Distinguish between equality of essence (مُسَاوَاة في الْكَرَامَة) and equality of role (مُسَاوَاة في الْوَظِيفَة) a key distinction in Islamic ethics.
