Matā yabdaʾu d-dars? Yabdaʾu d-darsu fī s-sāʿati t-tāsiʿa
When does the lesson start? The lesson starts at nine o'clock.
أَدْرُسُ اللُّغَةَ الْعَرَبِيَّةَ فِي الْمَعْهَد
Adrusu l-lughata l-ʿarabiyyata fī l-maʿhad
I study the Arabic language at the institute.
- مَتَى: "When?" followed by a present-tense verb for habitual actions.
- Object in accusative: أَدْرُس + اللُّغَةَ the direct object takes fatḥa (accusative).
- أُسْتَاذ: Used respectfully for any teacher, scholar, or professional an important cultural term.
- Islamic schools: مَدْرَسَة دِينِيَّة (religious school) and مَعْهَد (institute) are terms you will encounter throughout the Islamic world.
