Key Themes from Ibn Kathīr

This Qurʾān could not have been invented (10:37–38): The Qurʾān is not invented from other than Allah it is a confirmation of what preceded it and an explanation of the Book. If the Prophet ﷺ had fabricated it from himself, he would be among the wrongdoers. Produce a surah like it they could not, and cannot.

Yūnus's people accepted faith (10:98): "Then has there been any city that believed [after seeing the punishment] and its faith benefited it except the people of Yūnus? When they believed, We removed from them the punishment of disgrace in worldly life." Ibn Kathīr: they saw the signs of punishment approaching and believed. Their tawbah was accepted uniquely among all nations in the Qurʾān.

وَلَوْ شَاءَ رَبُّكَ لَآمَنَ مَن فِي الْأَرْضِ كُلُّهُمْ جَمِيعًا ۚ أَفَأَنتَ تُكْرِهُ النَّاسَ حَتَّىٰ يَكُونُوا مُؤْمِنِينَ Wa law shāʾa rabbuka la-āmana man fi l-arḍi kulluhum jamīʿā · a-fa-anta tukrihu n-nāsa ḥattā yakūnū muʾminīn And if your Lord had willed, all on earth would have believed together. So would you then compel people until they become believers? (10:99) Faith cannot be forced.

قُلْ بِفَضْلِ اللَّهِ وَبِرَحْمَتِهِ فَبِذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَفْرَحُوا هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِّمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ Qul bi-faḍli llāhi wa bi-raḥmatihī fa-bidhālika falyafraḥū · huwa khayrun mimmā yajmaʿūn Say: "In the bounty of Allah and in His mercy in that let them rejoice. It is better than what they accumulate." (10:58) True joy is in divine mercy, not worldly accumulation.

Allah's signs in day and night (10:5–6): The sun as a light and the moon as a reflection their fixed orbits allowing humans to calculate years and reckon time. These are signs for people who reason.
The drowning of Pharaoh (10:90–92): Pharaoh declared faith as he was drowning it was not accepted, as tawbah at the moment of death is not valid. His body was preserved as a sign for those who come after verified by modern archaeology.
"Follow what is revealed to you" (10:109): The Prophet ﷺ is commanded to be patient judgment belongs to Allah. Ibn Kathīr: this verse is a consolation when human efforts fail, divine judgment will not.
Prophethood through reason (10:16): The Prophet ﷺ had lived among them for forty years before revelation they knew his honesty and intelligence. He could not have invented the Qurʾān it came from outside him.
The Qurʾān as shifāʾ (10:57): "O mankind there has come to you an instruction from your Lord, and healing for what is in the breasts, and guidance and mercy for the believers." The Qurʾān heals spiritual disease doubt, hypocrisy, heedlessness.
