سورة البينة
A Madīnan sūrah of 8 verses. The People of the Book and polytheists, despite having had clear evidence, did not desist until the Messenger came with the Quran. The sūrah then pronounces the final verdict on disbelievers and believers respectively.

The opening describes those who disbelieved both among the People of the Book and the polytheists as not desisting (munfakkīn) from their disbelief until they received clear evidence (al-bayyinah): a Messenger from Allah reciting purified pages containing upright books. Ibn Kathīr clarifies this refers to the Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ bringing the Quran, which is described as the clearest possible proof.
The sūrah concludes with one of the most definitive classifications in the Quran: those who disbelieved after the Messenger came are sharro l-bariyyah (worst of creatures), while those who believed and did righteous deeds are khayru l-bariyyah (best of creatures). Ibn Kathīr records a ḥadīth in Ibn Ḥibbān where ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib narrated the Prophet ﷺ told him, "You and your followers are the best of creatures, O ʿAlī."
