35 verses, Makkī. Seventh and final Ḥawāmīm. The sand dunes of ʿĀd a powerful civilization destroyed for rejecting Hūd ﷺ. A man's gratitude to Allah for blessing his parents. A group of jinn who heard the Qurʾān and accepted Islam. Patience is the command to the Prophet ﷺ as the Messengers of determination were patient.

Key Themes from Ibn Kathīr
The duʿāʾ for parents and good deeds (46:15): "My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favour which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to work righteousness of which You will approve and make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed I have repented to You and indeed I am of the Muslims." Ibn Kathīr: this is the duʿāʾ of the person who reaches forty the age of maturity and reflection. The scholars say this verse was revealed about Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq.
The jinn who heard the Qurʾān (46:29–31): A group of jinn passed by the Prophet ﷺ while he was reciting Qurʾān and listened. They returned to their people saying: "O our people we have heard a Book revealed after Mūsā, confirming what came before it, guiding to the truth and to a straight path." Ibn Kathīr: the event of the jinn listening occurred when the Prophet ﷺ was returning from Ṭāʾif after the people rejected him.
- ʿĀd a warning forever (46:21–25): Hūd ﷺ said to his people: "I am a trustworthy adviser to you." They said their gods had afflicted him with evil. He said: "I call Allah to witness I am free from what you associate with Him." Then the wind came destroying everything by the command of Allah. Ibn Kathīr: ʿĀd is history's warning that power and civilization do not protect from divine punishment.
- Bow down before Him alone (46:31–32): The jinn called their people: "Respond to the caller of Allah and believe in Him He will forgive your sins and protect you from a painful punishment. And whoever does not respond to Allah's caller cannot escape on earth and has no protectors besides Him."
- Steadfastness Ūlū l-ʿAzm (46:35): "So be patient as were the Messengers of determination patient." Ibn Kathīr: the five Ūlū l-ʿAzm: Nūḥ, Ibrāhīm, Mūsā, ʿĪsā, and Muḥammad ﷺ each faced extraordinary opposition and was commanded to patience. The Prophet ﷺ is commanded to follow their model.
- The proof against idols (46:4–6): Show me what those besides Allah created of the earth, or do they have a share in the heavens? Bring a Book from before this or a trace of knowledge if you are truthful. Those you call upon besides Allah have no power over anything. They are not even aware of when they will be resurrected.
- The disbeliever's parent who believed (46:17): The one who says to believing parents: "Are you promising me that I will be brought out of the grave when generations have already passed away?" while the parents appeal to Allah to bring their child to faith. Ibn Kathīr: a vivid snapshot of generational religious conflict.
