ʿĪsā's prophecy of Aḥmad (61:6): "And when ʿĪsā son of Maryam said: O Children of Israel I am the Messenger of Allah to you confirming what came before me of the Torah and bringing glad tidings of a Messenger to come after me whose name is Aḥmad." Ibn Kathīr: Aḥmad is one of the Prophet's ﷺ names this verse is the Qurʾānic identification of the Paraclete (Holy Spirit) promised by ʿĪsā in the Gospel of John (14:16–17) which Ibn Kathīr and scholars of tafsir identify as a reference to the Prophet ﷺ.
The profitable trade (61:10–12): "O you who believe shall I guide you to a trade that will save you from a painful punishment? You believe in Allah and His Messenger and strive in the cause of Allah with your wealth and your lives that is better for you if you only knew. He will forgive your sins and admit you to gardens." Ibn Kathīr: the divine commercial offer the investment is faith and striving; the return is forgiveness and paradise. The best deal available to a human being.
- Why say what you don't do? (61:2–3): "O you who believe why do you say what you do not do? Great is hatred in the sight of Allah that you say what you do not do." Ibn Kathīr: this verse was a rebuke to those who claimed they would stand firm in battle then fled. But its scope includes all promises broken and all words not matched by deeds.
- Those who tried to extinguish the light (61:8): "They want to extinguish the light of Allah with their mouths but Allah will complete His light even if the disbelievers dislike it." Ibn Kathīr: every attempt to suppress Islam from the early Quraysh to later powers has failed. The divine promise is that this light will spread completely.
- Islam over all religion (61:9): "It is He who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to manifest it over all religion." Ibn Kathīr: ẓuhūr (manifestation) means Islam will be dominant either through argument and proof, or through political and civilisational prevalence.
- The Anṣār as helpers of Allah (61:14): The disciples of ʿĪsā ﷺ said: "We are the helpers of Allah." They believed while the Children of Israel disbelieved so We supported those who believed against their enemy. Ibn Kathīr: the parallel between the disciples and the Anṣār of Madīnah both were asked "Who will help?" and both responded without hesitation.
- Other gifts from Allah (61:13): "And another thing you love help from Allah and an imminent conquest. Give glad tidings to the believers." Ibn Kathīr: the promise of victory in this world alongside paradise the trade of jihad pays dividends in both worlds.
